Heidfeld Breaks Schumacher's Record for Consecutive F1 Finishes

He may be a long way to clinching his maiden Formula One win, but German driver Nick Heidfeld has every chance of extending a personal record of his own inside the series. As of the Spanish Grand Prix two weekends ago, the BMW Sauber driver became the new record holder in terms of consecutive races to cross the finish line.

The last such record was held by 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher (still 25 races). Therefore, it he manages to finish the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend, Heidfeld will become record holder at this category. This made for quite a celebration of his 32nd anniversary the past weekend.

Consistency is practically what kept the German driver with the Hinwil based team for so long, as he's known as one of the most regular drivers in Formula One. Although scoring several podiums for BMW throughout his career – including the only one this year, in Bahrain – he has never quite managed to get in 1st place to the chequered flag.

The German's last unfinished race dated back to the 2007 Japanese Grand Prix – during the rain affected race at Fuji Speedway – when a technical issue caused him to park his car alongside the Japanese track.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the BMW Sauber F1 Team for the stability of the car, which obviously played a major role in this record,” said Heidfeld when hearing about his newly-set F1 record.
