In the US as a whole, EVs account for a negligibly small percentage of 0.1% (17,345) out of a total of 12,8 million vehicles sold. That’s a very small percentage, however, that doesn’t mean that all states are dragging the US down.
The residents of Hawaii apparently love their EVs. They have bought 422 of them last year, out of a total of 35,531 cars sold there in 2011. That means that around 1.2% of all new cars sold within the archipelago were electric.

Despite the very high electricity prices in Hawaii, electric cars are selling surprisingly well, however, even with higher electricity costs, it’s still only half as expensive as filling a regular car up, so it’s still worth it. Hawaiians have a goal of having 40,000 EVs driving on their roads by the year 2020.
