Great Wall to Sell in the US by 2015

As American automakers are seeking success in China, Chinese manufacturer seem to think that it is in the US where they will find a great market. Until now, more than a fair share of Chinese builders have expressed their intention to sell in the US, and their number is growing by the week.

Great Wall, an automaker that sells with various degrees of success outside China (mainly Europe), is planning to land in the US as well, sometime within the next five years. According to Autonews, the first Great Wall models to arrive in the country will be Haval SUVs.

"We are in the process of implementing the plan," the company's CEO Wang Fengying was quoted as saying by Autonews. More than ten companies have talked to us about jointly establishing a dealer network. It is important for Chinese companies to go upscale, but more importantly, we must go global.”

For now, no Chinese brand is selling cars on a regular basis in the US, so there are little numbers that can show how the Americans would receive cars “made in China.” For all the car makers planning to sell their products in the States, it's a matter of simple calculus: will the investment needed to set up shop in the US be smaller than the profit that will come from selling the cars, even in very little numbers?

Great Wall, one of the largest producers of SUVs in China, sold 500,000 units last year. Of that, only 80,000 were sold in markets other than China.
