Google Maps and Apple Maps are two of the services that are supposed to excel in terms of accuracy when it comes to the locations they already surveyed, and needless to say, the United States is one of the countries where everything is covered to the smallest detail.
So it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the Black Lives Mater Plaza is already showing up on both Google Maps and Apple Maps after Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the renaming on June 5.

The Black Lives Matter Plaza is a two-block-long section of the 16th Street just near the White Housethat has recently been covered with a huge yellow mural that reads “black lives matter.”

The street art, whose gigantic yellow letters can be seen from the satellite, has already made its way to the map services out there, as both Google and Apple rushed to update their products to reflect the change.

While on Google Maps the satellite imagery hasn’t yet been updated and the Black Lives Matter plaza is only visible on the standard map, Apple Maps has already received new satellite images that show the gigantic street art near the White House.

While many believed the mural would go away at some point, the renaming of the plaza, coupled with the location showing up on Google Maps and Apple Maps, shows that it’s here to stay, especially as Mayor Bowser continues the dispute with President Donald Trump.

There was a dispute this week about whose street this is,” the mayor's chief of staff, John Falcicchio, said recently in a post on Twitter. “Mayor Bowser wanted to make it abundantly clear that this is DC’s street and to honor demonstrators who peacefully protesting on Monday evening.
