One of the best Google Maps features is finally making its way to the Waze navigation app on Android and iPhone, and as a result, on Android Auto and CarPlay.
Lane guidance has been available in Google Maps for so many years, and now it looks like the search giant is getting ready to roll it out in Waze.

The latest beta version of Waze comes with this feature, with lane information displayed in a dedicated notification on the screen, just like all the other alerts.

Like Google Maps, Waze will display all the available lanes but highlight the one that you must use to follow the directions suggested by the app.

For the time being, however, this feature is still in beta, so additional polishing could go live in the coming weeks before it’s released to more users.

Somewhat surprising is that some Waze users claim they have already received the lane guidance in the stable version of the application even if they are not part of the beta program.

Of course, neither Google nor Waze shared any details on the new feature, and there’s a good chance they would both remain tight-lipped on this update until it receives the go-ahead for the production version of the app.

However, the Waze Suggestion Box currently lists the lane guidance feature as in the works, which means the companies are already working on it, so sooner or later it should make its way to the app.

The good news is that lane guidance will substantially improve the navigation not only on Android and iPhone, but also on Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. And given Waze is currently one of the top navigation apps on both systems, this is an update that will come in handy to a significant number of users who rely on it to beat traffic jams and find the fastest ways to their destinations in crowded cities.
