Google has recently released a new beta update for Google Maps on Android, and according to several user reports, it could be the version finally resolving a major issue on Android Auto.
The new Google Maps beta build is 10.40.1, and it could be released to all users in the coming days, depending on how the testing goes.

Of course, as any other beta build that Google releases for Google Maps, this new version comes without a changelog, so it’s all up to us to discover what’s new in this update.

And while the release notes are missing, it’s believed the new Google Maps beta resolves one very important issue in Android Auto: the lack of audio guidance during navigation.

As many users found out the hard way, the voice guidance in Google Maps is sometime broken in Android Auto for a reason that is yet to be determined. More recently, someone has come up with a fix that essentially comes down to disabling voice audio over Bluetooth in Google Maps, pretty much forcing the voice guidance to be directed to your car’s speakers through Android Auto.

While this isn’t confirmed yet, it looks like this new beta of Google Maps finally resolves the problem, restoring voice guidance in Android Auto for everyone.

However, it’s important to know that this is still a beta for now, which means the build is meant for testing, so it remains to be seen if the same improvements are part of the next stable update for Google Maps as well.

In the meantime, if you’re also encountering the broken voice guidance in Google Maps, check out the link above for more instructions on how to fix the whole thing.

We’ve reached out to Google to ask for more information regarding the state of its bug fixes and will update the article when a response is offered. You can download the latest Google Maps beta APK installer using this link.
