Google has released a new version of Google Maps for Android (and Android Auto), but once again, the search giant hasn’t provided any details as to what is new in this update.
With today’s new version, Google Maps reaches version 10.39.3, and given it’s just a minor update, it’s mostly focused specifically on improving the performance of the app and resolving some of the bugs recently reported.

And while at first glance this seems just a minor revision that you can very well ignore, it could actually bring welcome fixes for Android Auto – we’re still waiting for confirmation regarding the changes in this release, so if you come across anything new, make sure you share it using the comment box below.

It’s not a secret that Google Maps has encountered various errors on Android Auto, and one of them causes the app to lose GPS tracking of the vehicle. In other words, cars end up being positioned on a completely different street, which means the navigation itself is pretty much useless because the guidance is no longer accurate.

Of course, it’s too early to tell if this new version fixes anything given that it went live only a few minutes ago (and because Google itself hasn’t provided a changelog), but you should install the new build anyway on your Android device to keep the app up-to-date.

Google Maps obviously remains the number one navigation app on both Android and Android Auto, with Google-owned Waze also among the top choices when it comes to getting navigation guidance behind the wheel. Google Maps is also one popular app on Apple’s CarPlay, as many use it as a replacement to the default Apple Maps that comes pre-loaded on the iPhone.

You can download the latest Google Maps version from the Google Play Store to try it out right now on your Android device and then on Android Auto.
