If you were thinking you own an old car, whose warranty has long expired, and have no chance of getting anything done to the car should something go wrong, think again. Honda is proving that Japanese manufacturers, as affected by recalls as they were this year, keep a close eye on what happens to the vehicles they produce, regardless of their age.
Today Honda announced it would be recalling 35,984 Passport models, manufactured in between 1998 and 2002, to have a look at the front brackets of the rear suspension lower trailing links. The recall is being conducted because Honda has learned that these elements, in areas where road salt is extensively used, corrosion may take hold, affecting vehicle handling and increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the Japanese manufacturer, who failed to provide additional details, there have already been a few incidents linked to this matter reported, but no injuries were sustained as a result of those incidents.
As said, the recall applies only to some of the US states, so if you live in one of the following regions and own a Honda Passport, contact your dealer: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington D.C.
As usual in such cases, if the inspection of the car finds that corrosion is beginning to make its presence felt, the lower trailing link frame brackets will be repaired free of charge for the owners.
