GM Shuts Down Fuel Cell Facility, In Favor of Hydrogen Research

GM has announced the closing of their Honeoye Falls, New York research facility, which specialized only in fuel-cell research. The announcement was made on October 5th, and all of the center’s 220 employees will be forced to look for work elsewhere, while some of them may be offered a job in Michigan. The automaker has announced that the decision was made, in order to consolidate its fuel-cell research program, from Pontiac, Michigan.

The entire town of Honeoye Falls, a town of just under 2,700 inhabitants, was relying on the GM research center to keep high-paid jobs within the city, and it was often brought forth as an example of how things should be run elsewhere. Sadly, GM is a huge multinational corporation which only understands pie charts and profits, and thus people’s livelihoods are irrelevant.

However, despite the news, GM will still continue to develop Hydrogen fuel, as they, seem to really fancy the technology, despite the fact that president Obama may give up his backing. They are fully aware that other manufacturers are also developing the technology further, and they surely don’t want to be left behind the pack.
