Since General Motors disrupted the life of the Chevrolet Colorado in 2012, Toyota gained popularity in the US midsize pickup class with its Tacoma model. However, GM now came back, threatening the Japanese automaker with the all new 2015 Colorado model just revealed at the Los Angeles Auto show today.
The Toyota Tacoma is expected to sell about 65% of the roughly 230,000 midsize pickups that will be sold this year. So, will there be enough volume for GM to make it through with the new model, stealing customers from Toyota and Nissan, with their new Frontier?

"Tacoma has carved out a niche with the American buying public because of its sportiness, rugged utility and best-in-class resale value," Toyota spokesman Curt McAllister said. "We expect the truck to easily eclipse 150,000 sales by the end of the year."

The new Colorado is expected to come with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an optional 3.6-liter V6, which are both smaller than the standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder and 4-liter V6 the Tacoma offers.

However, the Colorado promises to outrun the competition with a class-leading payload capacity and lots of premium features inside.

The Toyota Tacoma received its update last year for the 2013 model and there are rumors about another face-lift in the works, aimed at the GM’s new Colorado.
