With the announcement that more advanced talks between GM and the PSA group would be ceasing for the next two years, due to the uncertain economic climate of Europe, we thought the French giant would curl up into a ball, roll into the corner and cry. However, it seems that they are very keen to get back on the profit train as soon as possible.
According to Germany’s Manager Magazin, the PSA and Tata Motors of India have already passed the first talks phase. Furthermore, considering the fact that the CEO of PSA, Philippe Varin personally knows the owner of Tata, Ratan Tata, having done business in the steel industry with him, some years back.
Speculations suggest that Tata is looking to get advanced diesel technology from Peugeot, as the Indian market has developed a sudden and unexpected affinity towards diesel engines. They also need new platforms on which to base some new and more advanced models.
Peugeot, on the other hand, needs Tata in order to develop its own Dacia-style budget brand, in order to better compete with Renault.
