General Motors CEO Mary Barra was ranked as the most powerful woman in business in Fortune’s new list of “50 Most Powerful Women in Business: Global Edition”.
GM’s new boss, the first woman to run a global automobile manufacturer, was place above IBM chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty, Pepsi’s Indra Nooyi, Petrobras CEO Maria das Gracas Silva Foster and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg.

Mary Barra took over as General Motors CEO on January 15, after spending her entire career at the Detroit-based automaker. Barra, who oversees more than 210,100 employees in 396 facilities across six continents replaced former GM boss Dan Akerson.

The Fortune magazine considered the size and importance of a business, the company’s health and overall momentum and the leader’s career to determine the executive’s position in the global business community.
