Remember the giraffe scene in Hangover 3? It was one of the highlights of an otherwise unimpressive movie in which Allan decided to tow a giraffe trailer using his Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabrio. The animal hits its head on a bridge, gets decapitated and causes a massive highway chain crash where a semi truck spills all its cargo.
Get this, almost the same thing just happened this week in South Africa. Not one but two giraffes were being transported down the Pretoria N1 highway, which caused quite a scene all by itself, according to Mashable. Many people took photos, stunned by what they were seeing. “Look how low that bridge is and how tall the giraffes are. Who thought this one through? I wish I hadn't seen this,” says Pabi Moloi, a local TV and radio presenter in a Twitter post moments before the accident. Boy, was she ever right.
Moments later, one of the animals hit its head on the bride. Pabi said the sound this made was as loud as a gunshot. The owner of the animals denies this happened and says the giraffe that died suffered from neck problems, which is what killed it, not a crash. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is now investigating the matter and could press for criminal charges.
