About 105 years ago, the Ford Model T rolled off its Michigan assembly line to become the first mass-produced automobile. Mainly marketed to the middle class, “Tin Lizzie” sold more than 15 million units until 1927 and was named the world’s most influential car of the 20th century.
Its history it’s too rich to tackle in this article, but we figure most people know what a Ford Model T is and how it looks like. However, very few actually drove one recently and we bet it must be quite a challenge. It most certainly requires a few driving lessons and it looks like those interested in taking them will be able to do so at the Gilmore Car Museum next year.
Located between Detroit and Chicago in Hickory Corners, Michigan, the museum will offer ten educational driving sessions for the Model T in 2014. Open to only 18 students at a time, the classes cost $95 and lasts about two and a half hours each and will teach participants how to start and operate a Model T.
It includes use of spark and throttle control levers, proper shifting techniques, correct use of the neutral/brake lever as well as a history lesson through the museum’s collection. For more info on these classes head over to Gilmore Car Museum’s official website.
