A giant Olmec stone head statue crushed a Tesla Model 3 in Mexico City. But it was all in the name of the art. What we are looking at is the creation of a Mexican artist who wanted to show his repulse at what Tesla and Elon Musk are doing.
The exhibit is the latest work by Mexican sculptor Chavis Marmol, and it shows an ancient indigenous Olmec stone head on top of a Tesla Model 3. The top of the compact sedan is completely deformed.

"My idea was to make a piece of art to troll Elon Musk," Marmol explained. "Look what I do to your lousy car with this wonderful head. This is bigger than you and the rampant technologies," is the message that the artist sends out to Elon Musk. Marmot does not drive, but uses a bicycle to move around the city.

As reported by Forbes, Elon Musk is currently the world's third richest person right now, behind Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and LVMH boss Bernard Arnault.

The work is part of an art series called "Neo Ta Memes," which is a reference to the "tamemes," who were porters who carried loads on their backs in pre-Columbian times. Meanwhile, the Olmec head is an indication of the Mexican artist's cultural roots. The Tesla that was destroyed for art's sake was provided by an anonymous donor.

The display is a representation of revolt against capitalism and the pressure that it puts on people's shoulders. It has been set up with the help of a crane, which dropped a nine-ton stone replica of an Olmec head on top of the electric car. The heavy weight caved in the roof and pillars and smashed the windows.

What Marmol is trying to show is that capitalism takes the focus off what truly is important. In a video documenting his work, the 42-year-old artist explains in his native language, Spanish, that the head, which is a representation of the Mexican past, wins the war against the technological object, which, at the end of the day, is just a product of the capitalist system.

The venue for the installation was Colima 71 Art Design Hotel in Mexico City. The artistic director of the boutique hotel, Ana Margarita Ongay, says the car was placed there to create conversation. And it seems that it worked.

Those who had no idea that it was a work of art looked upward to see where the giant head had fallen from on top of the Model 3. Others went as far as saying that the huge head was put there by aliens. Of course, none of these scenarios was true, but the installation, widely debated by the international media, did spark conversation.
