Not too long ago, Audi said that it is aware of the drawback represented by the fact that all its cars look the same to many eyes. The carmaker appointed a new design director and said that it wants to move away from this. However, until all that happens, we’ll have to whitness launches of vehicles that have already been drawn, such as the new A3.
The third generation of the German compact doesn’t look to different from its predecessor, with the car measuring 4,237mm in length, 1,421mm in height and 1,777mm in width, which means that it’s only different in terms of width (+12mm) and wheelbase (+23mm).
However, the A3 is all-new underneath, as its rides on the VW Group’s fresh modular MQB platform. This allows the vehicle to be 80 kg (176.37 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, tipping the scales at 1,175 kg (2,590 lbs).
The A3 is being launched with two petrols and a diesel. We are talking about a 1.4 TFSI producing 122 hp and 200 Nm (147.5 lb-ft) or 178 hp and 250 Nm (184.4 lb-ft), as well as a 2.0 TDI returning an efficiency of 4.1 l/100 km (57.37 US mpg) and emitting 106 grams of CO2 per km.
