Let’s forget the sales-driving Cayenne and luxury-promoting Panamera for a few moments and focus on the spiritual core of the Porsche brand - its sportscars. Ladies and Gentlemen (drivers), meet the new gateway to the Porsche range, the 2013 Boxster.
The 981 generation of the mid-engined roadster, the third one in its history, made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show today, alongside its hotter S version that we presented earlier.
At the middle of the car, we can find a 2.7-liter flat six that has been tweaked to produce a power premium of 10 hp (compared to the previous generation), delivering a total of 265 hp. This can be matted to either a six-speed manual (sorry, no 7-speed for the Boxster) or to a seven-speed PDK double clutch transmission. The entry-level Porsche sportscar is now 77 lbs (35 kg) lighter and can handle the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 5.7 seconds.
The new Boxster will be launched on the European market next month (it will start at EUR49,590), while its US introduction is scheduled for the summer, with the vehicle having a starting price of $49,500.
