Genesis Motor is a South Korean premium brand, the luxury division of Hyundai – much like Lexus is Toyota's high-end division, Infiniti is Nissan's ritzy marque, and Acura is Honda's more expensive counterpart. However, Genesis hasn't been around as much as the other three.
For example, Lexus and Infiniti were 'born' in 1989, and Acura is even 'older' because it was launched in 1986. In contrast, Hyundai envisioned Genesis as a proper rival since 2004, but it wasn't until 2015 that they put the plans into effect, and the first standalone G90 model only appeared in 2017.

Six years later, a lot of progress was made in a short span, and Genesis sells the G70, the 2024 G80 and Electrified G80, and G90 sedans, plus the GV60 (EV), GV70 and Electrified GV70, and GV80 crossover SUVs. Six models across the region – more in other markets like Europe's G70 Shooting Brake, that's not bad, right?

However, that doesn't mean a regular Genesis G70 should have the audacity even to imagine that it could do better than a BMW – a staple of German engineering and sportiness – or a Corvette, aka 'America's sports car,' right? Well, as it turns out, not one but two Genesis G70 thought they could do better – and not on the street but rather in the safe confines of a quarter-mile dragstrip facility.

After the most recent hiatus, the videographer behind the Drag Racing and Car Stuff channel on YouTube is back with feisty action from the Bradenton Motorsports Park and Orlando Speed World Dragway in Florida. A few days ago, the passionate fellow posted the races between a C6 Chevy Corvette and a 2JZ-swapped Chevy Camaro (blasphemy, I know – but that's part of the fun of racing), a Nissan GT-R, and also a 'Police' car but somehow, I forgot all about that video.

I apologize for that, and now it's safely embedded (second below) for our viewing pleasure. However, the videographer is back with yet another set of races – one from Bradenton and one from Orlando involving a gray Genesis G70 drag racing a BMW 4 Series Coupe (possibly an M4, but we can't be sure because it was night, and the camera isn't great without natural light) and also a blue Genesis G70 involved in a skirmish with a C7 Chevy Corvette.

What makes these two encounters pretty enticing is that you would expect the BMW and Corvette to wipe the floor with the premium Genesis G70 – a saloon that's not as expensive as the 2023MY, starting from $39,400. Instead, the gray G70 gave the BMW an excellent little lesson on how to obtain and maintain a lead, finishing 11.98s versus 12.94s, and the blue G70 also expertly handled the race against the beloved C7 – they were pretty near (12.16s versus 12.28s) in the end!
