Gen 2 VW New Beetle May Arrive in November

An exciting news for fans of one of the most iconic cars of all times surfaced over the weekend in the British media. According to Autocar, unidentified sources say the November auto show in Los Angeles will see the introduction of the second generation Volkswagen New Beetle, boasting nip'n'tucks to everything, starting with the body and ending with the powertrain.

According to the source, the new New Beetle will pack at least three petrol engines and just as much diesel ones. The petrol offering will be spearheaded by a 2.0l unit (210 bhp), followed by a 1.4l (160 bhp) and a 1.2l (105 bhp).

The diesel units may comprise a 2.0l unit, developing 140 bhp and a 1.6l 105 bhp engine. According to Autocar, the US Beetle may also get a 2.5l 170 bhp version. A hybrid powertrain is also likely to be offered.

Otherwise, the new Beetle will be both wider and longer because, the source says, it will be produced in the same place as the Jetta.

As for the looks of the Beetle, the unnamed sources told Autocar “It is more contoured, with additional structuring and defined feature lines used to help to break up the simple surfacing and unadorned character of the current model."

With looks inspired by the VW Ragster presented in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show, the new Beetle will boast the same rounded lighting and wings over each wheel, with less extreme screen angles.

Exciting as it is, the news abut the new Beetle has not yet been confirmed. If true, however, we expect further details to become available soon.
