Garcia: Mosley Would Be Nuts to Back Jean Todt

Although publicly stating his positive thoughts towards a Jean Todt candidature for the FIA presidency this autumn, Max Mosley will not back the former Ferrari boss in a potential campaign. Well, unless he'll go nuts in the upcoming few months. That's what the president of the Spanish Motorsport Federation Carlos Carcia said, when being asked about the next FIA president (in case Mosley will not run for re-election).

Garcia argued the reasons why Mosley will not go for Todt in October are rather obvious, as the Frenchman was on Ferrari's paycheck for more than a decade in Formula One. And, since the FIA and Ferrari don't seem to see eye to eye lately, backing somebody that would increase the Scuderia's influence within the ruling body would be out of the question.

Unless Max has gone even more mad I don't think he'll back Jean Todt because we all know where he comes from and who he's linked to,” said Garcia in an interview with Spain's Onda Cero radio.

In addition, Garcia insisted that Mosley's not running for another mandate later this year is not such a done deal as initially thought. And, as argued by the Spanish official, the teams have Ferrari's CEO Luca di Montezemolo to thank for this turn of events, as insulting the 69-year old Brit rarely comes without a fightback.

It wouldn't surprise me if Max Mosley runs for re-election. The worst thing you can do is leave an animal badly wounded. What Luca has managed to do is reactivate Max,” added the Spanish president.

Garcia was himself listed as one of the potential candidates for the presidential seat of the FIA in the October elections. It seems like he has already began his campaign, as he is very well aware of the fact that getting on Mosley's good side might help him in the long run.
