Days away from Tesla's Q2 2023 earnings call, investors have already voted on the most pressing questions they expect Elon Musk and its team to answer. The hottest topics are Full Self Driving, Cybertruck, and the 4680 battery cell progress. Tesla also released the link to its Q2 2023 earnings call livestream.
Tesla reported impressive second-quarter results, with a massive 83 percent increase over the second quarter of 2022. It was easily the best quarter the EV market leader ever had, beating Wall Street expectations by a margin. Still, everyone eagerly awaits the July 19 earnings call to get all the data. Investors are particularly concerned with the profit margins, which were undoubtedly affected by the recent price cuts. Tesla might not be as severely affected as people think, considering the cost-cutting measures and the manufacturing optimizations at its gigafactories.

Although margins may be a hot topic, andTesla will undoubtedly include this in its financial results as it always did, retail investors rallied to upvote different questions. Unlike institutional investors, who are mainly interested in costs, margins, and business strategies, retail investors are keen to learn about technical details, technologies, and products. They are more tech-savvy and usually have a better understanding of what Tesla and Elon Musk are cooking. This makes Tesla earnings calls exciting to watch, as they offer tons of insightful information.

The second-quarter earnings call on Wednesday will be no exception, at least judging by the most-voted questions addressed to the Tesla team. Although the Cybertruck starting production at Giga Texas is the event of the year, there's another subject that retail investors want clarified. The most-voted question is about transferring the FSD license to another car, which many people would like. The second most-voted question is about licensing FSD Beta to other carmakers, while other FSD-related questions seek clarification about the FSD Beta V12, the first non-Beta version.

Sadly, I think the most voted question is a shot in the wind, considering that Tesla doesn't want to transfer FSD to new cars. It specifically introduced the $199 subscription for those that want to future-proof their FSD access with new car purchases. At this rate, the $15,000 upfront price in the US covers more than six years of use, and people who change their car more often than that should seriously consider the subscription. This way, they can cancel when they sell their Tesla and re-subscribe with the new car.

Taking the number three spot, the Cybertruck question concerns delivery schedules, pricing, and specifications. Many criticized Tesla for keeping this under wraps, but it has reasons to wait. The Cybertruck has 1.8 million reservations, but its success largely depends on its features and the price it will sell at. We're all waiting for Tesla to share the juicy bits. However, we should not be disappointed if Tesla waits until the dedicated event in September.

Cybertruck's success is closely related to the 4680 battery cells, so it's no wonder investors want to know more about the progress in this field. Tesla touted the 4680 cells as a game changer, but development has been mostly silent, and the Semi started production with 2170 cells. The limited 4680 output is used for the Model Y AWD produced at Giga Texas. So far, it doesn't look like that performance-wise, the new cells are better than 2170 batteries, but people want to hear that they are at least cheaper to manufacture.

I'd like to know what you would ask Tesla executives during the Q2 earnings call, so post your comment in the section below. If you're a Tesla investor, you can send up to three questions to the Tesla board by July 19 and upvote the most exciting question others posted. The earnings call will be livestreamed below on Wednesday, July 19, starting at 4:30 PM Central Time (5:30 PM Eastern Time).
