Volkswagen has in the past few years become obsessed with creating a core brand identity in terms of design. Some say they make different sizes of the same sausage car, while others appreciate their Polo looks a little bit like a Passat.
This concept called the Golf Sportsvan is no different. Built on the MQB platform shared with the Golf hatch, it looks 100% like a production car, a blend of Passat and Golf features. In fact, you can almost see the "should I buy this car?" expression on people's faces as they check it out at the IAA, even though this is technically a concept.
The Sportsvan is soon to become the new Golf Plus and already Vdub has told us most of the specs. The petrol engine range will include the 85 PS 1.2 TSI, 110 PS 1.2 TSI, 122 PS 1.4 TSI, and a newer 1.4 TSI with COD. Diesels will include the 110 PS 1.6 TDI and 150 PS 2.0 TDI. No mention of 4Motion all-wheel drive, but it makes perfect sense to offer it on top models.
Standard cargo volume is 498 liters but the rear bench can slide forward to create another 87 liters of space. You can, of course, fold them, which gives you about 1,500 liters of space. You can also fold the front passenger seat to fit objects that are 2,484mm long.
