Lotus’ plans for the future includes a number of exciting new sportscars that some are calling too heavy, but all are interested in. The British automaker also wants to build its own V6 and V8 engines, take on the big luxury players and get back into motorsport in a big way.
To do this, they must have something, anything to conquer the B-roads and gravel tracks in. Introducing the brand new Exige R-GT that was launched in Frankfurt to commemorate the 30th anniversary of World Rally Championship victory in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus.
Getting Straight to the point, the car is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 developing 302 hp, sent to the back via a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The unit is kept in check by 34-millimeter air restrictors that are required by the FIA rulebook for R-GT racing.
The car will be sold to customer teams first, instead of being raced by a factory suite. We’re still waiting on a price, but this is one exciting rally car like no other.
