Forster to Take Charge of Jaguar Land Rover

Carl-Peter Forster, ex GM Europe president and one of those who criticized GM's decision to keep Opel, might join Jaguar Land Rover in the near future, the Sunday Times newspaper informed in a report.

At this time, there are only a few statements when it comes to the role Forster is going to get in the company but the aforementioned source claims that GM Europe's ex president is likely to receive a senior position within Tata Motors. This would basically mean that he'll be responsible for Jaguar and Land Rover, the paper said.

On the other hand, German weekly Focus claims that Forster might join Tata Motors but won't be in charge of the British brand. Instead, he'll lead the European launch of Tata Nano, a model expected to arrive on the Old Continent in 2011.

General Motors announced during the weekend that Carl-Peter Forster will quit the company and will be temporarily replaced by Nick Reilly, former managing director of Opel sister brand Vauxhall in the UK and current head of GM's international operations.

“The Opel brand has made tremendous progress under Carl-Peter’s tenure and leadership over the past several years,” said GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson.

“We thank him for his significant accomplishments and wish him only the best in the future. In the meantime, we’re confident that the key personnel leading Opel will stay focused on running the business during this time of transition. We expect to finalize our proposals for establishing Opel/Vauxhall’s future next week and will be engaging all stakeholders to see how we can best work together in achieving our mutual goals. We will update on our progress as soon as is possible.”
