Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is a very interesting proposition indeed, for powering the Fiesta, Focus, and even the upcoming Mondeo. Its maximum current output, in production form is 125 hp, which is a lot, considering its limited displacement.
However, Ford have already run the engine closer to 200 hp, in their Formula Ford racing car, and now they are reportedly working on a 150 hp version of the engine, for the road, and for use in a production car.

EcoBoost chief engineer, Andrew Fraser, said: “I’ve got my team working on an engine to see just how far we can push the unit in production trim.” He added that the engine “would have to complete a full development process.”

If they could get 150 hp out of this engine, then plop it under the bonnet of the revised Fiesta, then we would get one very interesting ‘warm-hatch’, with great handling, courtesy of the low weight over the front axle, excellent fuel efficiency and plenty of poke, as well as a V6-esque sound, courtesy of the engine’s three cylinder warble.
