A four-wheel-drive utility produced on the T6 platform of the Ford Ranger, the Troller T4 has been redesigned in 2014 with great commercial success in Brazil. But for 2019, the Trail aims to improve the off-road SUV with no-nonsense bumpers, tow hooks at the front and rear, a snorkel, and matte grey for the plastic cladding on the wheel arches.
In addition to Dakar Yellow (pictured), the Troller T4 Trail is also available in Moscow Grey, Red Tuscany, Frost Silver, Mendoza Black, Arizona Red, and Diamond White. Customers are also treated to a prep pack for the installation of a winch, the type of equipment you definitely need if you’re serious about hitting the trail without any assistance.

Pricing starts at 144,990 reals, which works out at $38,125 at the current exchange rate. A 3.2-liter Duratorq comes standard, featuring five cylinders, a turbocharger, and 200 PS (197 horsepower). The turbo diesel sends the suck-squeeze-bang-blow to a six-speed manual transmission connected to all four corners of the Jeep Wrangler-inspired vehicle. Thanks to the rigid front axle from Dana, body-on-frame architecture, and electronic low range, the Troller T4 Trail is capable of 51-degree approach and departure angles.

A 30-degree breakover angle and climbing up 45-degree ramps are other highlights of the Brazilian model, which looks as if Lego designed it. Steel skid plates are also standard, along with a self-locking rear differential. If you were wondering why the Troller isn’t sold by the Ford Motor Company stateside, the T4 Trail wouldn’t pass the regulatory stumbling block for crash safety.

This gets us to the Ranger, which has been developed from the T6-based Ranger from Australia and Europe to comply with all the regulations in the United States. The Blue Oval made changes to the platform as well, integrating the 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed transmission from the F-150 to challenge the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma.

On that note, the Bronco will return for the 2021 model year on Ranger underpinnings. These include the four-cylinder engine and 10R80 mentioned in the previous paragraph, and chances are a high-output engine with more cylinders and displacement will be introduced later down the line.
