The current Ford Mondeo is truly a benchmark car in its class, and even now as it nears the end of its useful ‘shelf life’, it is still one of the segment leaders. Now, with the all-new Ford Fusion-based Mondeo, the manufacturer is trying to push forth a more American-ized version of what Europeans thought of as a replacement for the current car - more so than with the Focus, we say.
They have just released a series of pictures, showing all three versions of the car: sedan, hatchback and estate. We must admit that while we may not have been totally convinced by the sedan variant, we really think that the hatchback is the best looking of the lot, while the estate is also surprisingly good-looking for what it is.

Aside from the powerplants, which will be unique to the European car, the Mondeo differentiates itself from the American Fusion by the availability of full-LED headlamps, improvements in trim quality and suspension settings, to better suit Europe’s very wide array of driving conditions.

Furthermore, a new and welcome addition to the Mondeo range is the hybrid version, which uses a 2.0-liter engine, in conjunction with 35 kW electric motor. Also, the base diesel will not be the current generation of 1.6-liter units, as it is pegged to be replaced by a new 1.5-liter unit, which will slowly phase out Ford’s 1.4 and 1.6 diesel engines in coming years.

Stephen Odell, Chairman and CEO of Ford of Europe was very proud of the new Mondeo, saying “This is the most premium Mondeo we’ve ever built and the most premium vehicle Ford’s loyal European customers have ever been offered [. . .] It raises the bar in its segment in terms of style, technology and quality.”
