A fresh batch of test results have been released by the Euro NCAP safety body, and it cover many interesting new arrivals on the European market. These include the new BMW 1-Series and Audi Q3, but we’re going to focus on the new Ford Ranger, which was the first ever pickup truck to get a five-start rating.
The result is even more remarkable given the fact that the new generation of Range was designed by Ford Australia and caters to the global market, not just European safety regulations. The old version of the truck only managed to get a dismal 2 stars from Euro NCAP Back in 2008, so the mighty Ranger has come a long way.

But it’s not just its passengers that this vehicle protects, as the Ranger’s 81% pedestrian score is the highest score recorded for pick-ups tested by Euro NCAP so far and therefore sets a new standard in this area. This comes as a result of a softer and well-engineered front end, absorbing the impact energy and better protecting pedestrians.

“With such pedestrian protection the Ford Ranger is undoubtedly raising the bar of safety in the category of pick-up trucks, which had until now not proven to be the safest,”
says Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General.

Not that pickups will be frequently used for transporting small children, but it also did well in this field, scoring 42 points or 86%. Euro NCAP also found the Ranger’s ESP system to be satisfactory.
