Opened in January 1972 under the Michigan Casting Center alias, the factory located on 1 International Drive in Flat Rock, Michigan is an important production hub for the Blue Oval. In addition to the popular Fusion, roughly 12,000 hourly workers also manufacture the 2015 Ford Mustang at Flat Rock.
The highly-anticipated sixth-gen Ford Mustang started assembly in Michigan back in August of 2014. For the first time in the nameplate’s 50-year history, the Mustang will be made available globally to customers in more than 120 countries around the world. For example, the fastback GT holds an unbelievable $128,680 sticker in China. I kid you not!

In addition to the weird auto taxation in China, it needs pointing out that the addition of a right-hand drive Mustang will allow the iconic model to to be exported to more than 25 right-hand drive markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. As the Fusion and its European brother - the 2015 Ford Mondeo, the sixth-gen Mustang is a global vehicle as well, following the One Ford strategy.

Available in 3.7 V6, 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-pot, 5.0 Coyote V8 and 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 formats, the outgoing Mustang is more versatile than its predecessor, especially because this is the first of its kind to benefit from IRS (independent rear suspension), loosely based on the Fusion’s rear axle. Even though a part of the Flat Rock plant will be reportedly tooled up to make the 2016 Lincoln MKS later this year, right now we want to share with you an awesome behind the scenes video of how workers make the Mustang.

Cue car spotter extraordinaire Shmee150 taped 7 minutes and 36 seconds of how the Flat Rock Assembly Plant looks inside following his visit to the Detroit Auto Show. This video is valuable as is due to the fact most people are not allowed to film within the walls where Ford manufactures Mustang models.

Fortunately, Shmee was granted special permission to give you an insight into the facility. Enjoy!
