This just in from sportscar365.com - Multimatic Motorsports, the competition arm of Multimatic Engineering, told the previously mentioned website that the race-spec 2016 Shelby GT350R Mustang will get to stretch its legs at the Sebring International Raceway during the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship’s second stint of 2015.
As such, the Shelby-ified competition-focused monster will roar into life on March 30th. Early reports hinted towards a debut slated for mid-season, but after learning this latest intel, it appears that Ford is getting excited to unveil the CTSC-spec GT350R sooner than ever, which is a good thing for any gearhead out there.
After it’s made its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and the ordering guide for both the GT350 and GT350R leaked on the World Wide Web, this Sebring showdown seems like the proper way to prepare potential customers for the opening of the order books. As if that wasn’t sufficient brouhaha, the GT350R brute was listed within the pre-season CTSC car regulations, although most tech specs are unknown.
This comes after drivers Bill Johnson and Scott Maxwell were photographed by the carparazzi while testing GT350R prototype at the Daytona Speedway before the production car’s Detroit unveiling. Johnson commented that “I couldn’t be more excited for the new season. With the new cars coming, I think we’re going to be really strong this year. I’m happy to be co-driving with Scott and I’m looking forward to some podium finishes!” Except those two and their No. 15 'Stang, Jade Buford and Austin Cindric will drive the No. 158 race-spec Shelby GT350R Mustang.
The Boss 302Rs of yesteryear weren’t half bad, but with these all-new babies, chances are the Multimatic Motorsports outfit will be even more competitive during this season of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. In related news, word has it the street-legal GT350R Mustang will cost $69,995 and laps the Nurburgring in just 7:32.19.
