Ford Leads UK Sales in August

Ford has once again managed to be the leader in the UK market the passed month, securing its position ahead of bumper September and for the year to date. In the absence of strong Focus stocks, the little Fiesta was once again at the top of the overall figures, while the Transit is keeping onto its crown in the commercial vehicle department.
Ford's total vehicle market share for August stands at 15.8 percent, and for the year to date at 15.4 percent. These were both up compared to the same periods in 2010. Thankfully for this struggling market, official figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that total car sales in August were up 7.3 percent to 59,346 units compared to the same month of last year.

But the Blue Oval’s car sales outpaced the overall August market significantly, the total of 8,552 sales was up 18.0 percent compared with August 2010. For the year to date, Ford total car sales are 171,278 and its share is 14.0 percent while Ford's share of retail car sales is 12.4 percent, up from 11.5 percent compared with the same period in 2010.

"The strong customer appeal of Ford's best ever vehicle range supported sales increases for Ford across all UK market sectors in August, ahead of the bumper registrations month in September when the '61' plate is introduced.  Together with our dealer partners we will be looking to maintain this sales momentum with our outstanding value Fiesta and Focus models leading the charge, as our dealers again push for leadership in the September sales rush,"
said Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director.
