London police are on alert this morning after a grey Ford Fiesta seems to have hit several cyclists and pedestrians outside the Houses of Parliament. The car then hit one of the security barriers at the location.
There is no other information available at this point, as the incident is still unfolding. According to various sources, the driver of the car has been taken into custody. The Houses of Parliament are on lockdown following the crash and armed police are on the scene.
According to eye witness Jason Williams, the car drove at “speed into the bollard.” “I saw smoke coming out of the vehicle,” the witness told Sky News. "It’s all been high-speed and very, very dramatic."
“At 0737 hours today, a car was in collision with barriers outside the Houses of Parliament,' said the Metropolitan Police in a statement cited by The Guardian.
"The male driver of the car was detained by officers at the scene. A number of pedestrians have been injured. Officers remain at the scene. We will issue further info when we have it.”
Ever since the March 2017 terror attack on London, which left six people dead, including the attacker, barriers of steel and concrete have been erected around the Houses of Parliament.
We will update this story as the events unfold.
