Ford Fiesta Coming to India in 2011

The successful launch of the Figo last year was enough to convince American manufacturer Ford of the potential the Indian market has. With the model sky-rocketing to the peak of glory in just a few months' time, it became obvious that Indians are very keen on buying small, well-built vehicles.

With that in mind, the auto maker confirmed today that it would be bringing Figo's bigger sister, the Fiesta, onto the Indian market sometime this year. To be built locally, at the Chennai facility, it is expected the model will also wear a local price tag.

“We are delighted the new Fiesta is coming to India. It will provide Indian customers a premium sedan that reflects their personality in terms of style, technology and performance, and will add a new level of diversity and dynamism to our showrooms,"
said Michael Boneham, Ford India president.

Soon to have two models from the small class on the market, Ford plans to make full advantage of the segment which brought it the good numbers of last year. In 2010 Ford sold great, but the start of the new year was even greater: for the first time in history, Ford sold above 10,000 of its cars in one month, 8,600 were Figos.

"The new Fiesta will augment the current range of Fiesta vehicles in India, which remain an integral part of our product line-up,” added Boneham. “Our stepped-up launch plan builds on the incredible consumer response to the Ford Figo, which in 12 months has transformed our presence in India and attracted many new customers to the Ford brand."
