The Ford Fiesta facelift has been around for quite some time in our little corner of the world, but the Brazilians are only now receiving their version. To celebrate, the company is launching a marketing campaign that is all about "Close Encounters".
By combining science fiction with humor, they've achieved the same effect as some of our all-time Hollywood favorites, including Men in Black. However, besides having a giggle, their goal is to present the features on the new Fiesta in the best light possible.
The filming took place on a farm in Sao Paulo. It shows how a UFO hunter and his friends chase little green men in their ship. Two Fiestas are driven hard through the crops, but instead of making contact with the creatures from another planet, they continue the race on the improvised track formed by the crop circles. Who needs celestial insight when we have internet and smartphones already, right?
Is there anything different about the Brazilian Fiesta? Well, it doesn't come with an EcoBoost engine, instead adopting a classic 1.6 Sigma TiVCT with variable valve timing and 128 horsepower. In the country, it's viewed as a premium model, as it comes with features such as hill start assist, MyKey, seven airbags, air conditioning, electric mirrors and front windows. All that leads us to believe that the cars are US-spec imports.
We remember how UFO movies like Independence Day used to be all the rage. Now, they've been reduced to a marketing gimmick, as nobody cares about the little green people. Go home Martians, we have racing to do!
