This just in from a far place in Eastern Asia – the Blue Oval's Chinese arm moved 549,256 new vehicles these past six months, a 35 percent increase over the same period last year. In June, Ford China sold 87,783 cars, up 17 percent compared to the same month of 2013.
Changan Ford (CAF), the Blue Oval's passenger car joint venture, enjoyed a record first half thanks to no less than 397,958 vehicles sold, up 39 percent over the 286,433 cars moved in the first six months of 2013. CAF June 2014 new car sales peaked at 67,187 vehicles, which represents a 23 percent increase from June 2013, with the locally made Focus selling a respectable 33,614 units.
As far as imported nameplates are concerned, Ford China experienced a 70 percent increase in sales for its imported passenger vehicles. Out of the 18,360 imported cars from January to June, the best-selling models included the Ford Edge, Explorer, Fiesta ST and Focus ST. As part of its accelerated growth plan, Ford opened 88 new dealerships across the country in a single day, while a new Changan Ford transmission plant was finished thanks to a substantial $350 million investment.
The American manufacturer's Chinese commercial vehicle effort, Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), also boasts with its best first-half performance after it managed to sell 132,938 vehicles. That's a 21 percent increase from the 110,230 automobiles moved in the first six months of 2013. As for June sales, JMC delivered 19 percent more vehicles than in the same month of 2013, totaling 19,012 vehicles.
