First 2013 Dodge Dart to Roll off Line on May 3rd

It seems that Chrysler Group has hit an unknown problem with its parts suppliers and is now working at full pace to find solutions. The car that we expected to be rolled off the line in April will now make its factory debut in Ilinois on May 3rd, according to Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler groups, who was recently interviewed by Bloomberg.
The Dart is a subcompact sedan built on a platform reportedly borrowed from Alfa Romeo. It’s a stern test of the two company’s work over the past three years.

With prices poised to start at under $17,000, the car is quite cheap and the most efficient engine on offer is expected to get over 40 miles to the gallon. Once the order books open, demand should be high, potentially creating a bottleneck.

Chrysler plans to guide dealers into set configurations of the car, giving them access only to equipment packages on the less expensive models. Matchionne says that it would have been a nightmare for the Belvidere plant to have to deal with free options specifications.

The base Dart will start at $15,995, not including the $795 destination charge, with prices going all the way up to $22,495.

There are a total of five trim levels to choose from starting with the base Dart SE, which comes as standard with 10 standard air bags, four wheel disc anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control (ESC), six-way manual driver seat with height adjustment, power windows and an audio system with CD/MP3 player. Power comes from a 2.0-liter Tigershark with 160 hp, mated to a six-speed manual.

The next trim level is the Dart SXT, which starts at $17,995 and comes with the 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo as an option, as well as 17-inch aluminum wheels, power body-color mirrors, remote keyless entry, security alarm, 60/40 split folding rear seat, sliding armrest and air conditioning.

For $18,995, you can have the Dart Rally, which dual exhaust, trip computer and other features that enhance the car.

Further up the range sits the Dart Limited, which is priced just under $20,000. This comes with am 8.4-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera a 7-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor) reconfigurable instrument cluster display, fog lamps, power driver seat, automatic headlamps, active grille shutters and extra body trim.

The most expensive model is the $22,495 Dodge Dart R/T, which is offered with a 2.4-liter Tigershark with 184 hp, available with six-speed manual or automatic. This will only be available from the third quarter of 2012 and will be the most powerful Dart until the 300 hp SRT4 arrives.

In case this isn’t enough for you, there are 150 Mopar parts to choose from, so you won’t be wanting for customizations options if your dealer is up for the challenge. The subcompact segment is traditionally a hard place to make a profit, but Chrysler may have found a way to do so!
