The European credit crisis has affected all the automakers on the Old Continent, who have had to supplement poor sales on home ground, with stronger sales in other markets, such as the US, Asia and even Russia. Fiat is no exception when it comes to this, as they too have suffered dwindling sales in Europe, and they will be relying on their factories in North America, and South America.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Fiat-Chrysler group was keen to point out that their factories in the US and South America are operating at full capacity, to try and keep up with demand - he is also thankful of the fact that Chrysler is doing well, and it is dragging Fiat along for the ride, pulling both companies out of the doldrums. He even says that there is a lack of production capacity in the two aforementioned regions.

Also, the new and more luxurious Fiats which he has announced are coming will be cars which will appeal to both European and US buyers, thus solidifying their position on both markets. China is also another viable option for the Italian brand, as its automotive market has done nothing but grow in the last few years.
