Lancia May Face the Axe as Fiat Losses Mount

The economic downturn in Europe is very likely to be making another victim, yet this time we are sad to announce the possible death of Lancia. The Fiat Group may be closing the famed Italian brand, as reports indicate that they may post huge losses of 700-million Euros by the end of 2012.

The information comes courtesy of German site Automobilwoche, which goes on to say that the ‘restructuring’ is just part of a much bigger plan set up by the group CEO, Sergio Marchionne, to attempt to get Fiat back on the profit train, yet no sooner than 2015-2016.

The group will rely on platform sharing, rebadging and cost-cutting, in order to achieve financial stability. Also, Fiat is putting pretty much all its hopes on the all-new Panda, which will reportedly brought to the US, bearing a Jeep badge – we speculate that if this does turn out to be true, they will most likely rebadge the all-wheel driven Panda Trekking.
