Fiat Investing €9 Billion to Launch New Models, End European Losses

Word has it Fiat is ready to invest as much as €9 ($12.3) billion to develop new models, revive Italian factories and put an end to the group’s European losses in three years.
According to Automotive News, Fiat plans to retool its domestic factories in order to build more Maserati and Alfa Romeo model in Italy. Additionally, Fiat will focus on variants of the 500 and Panda and drop the Punto subcompact. The 500 will target customers looking to buy a more premium product, while the Panda will be aimed at budget-conscious.

“The Fiat brand has two dimensions, Panta-500, functional-aspirational, left brain-right brain”, said Fiat brand CEO Olivier Francois.

Earlier this year, Fiat said it aims to launch 20 new models for Europe by 2016, eight of which are supposed to be Alfa Romeos. The latter will unveil its future European strategy in April 2014.
