FIA Confirms Women's Commission in Motorsport

Although he recently replaced Max Mosley at the helm of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Jean Todt already started to make some positive changes in terms of management. Apart from the newly-announced point-system changes in Formula One and S2000 championship in the WRC, the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) also confirmed the formation of a Women & Motor Sport Commission.

The WSC will, from now on, militate for the introduction of women in all aspects of motor racing, regardless if we're talking about female drivers, managers or even owners.

In addition, the FIA has set some other aims for the newly-formed body, which will be headed by former World Rally star driver Michele Mouton.

Set in place strategies and policies that will promote the education and training of women in motor sport. Implement actions and events to allow the sharing of experiences and reflection on how to strengthen the participation of women (as athletes, officials and managers) in motor sport. Collaborate with international organizations on joint sports projects,” said the FIA statement.

Apart from Mouton, an additional 10 women will be part of the aforementioned commission, as follows:

A FIA Commission Manager, FIA Manufacturers’ representative, three representatives of National Sporting Authorities, one team managers’ representative, a drivers’ representative, one representative of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, one project manager and a FIA Communications’ representative.”
