Ferrari Yet to Fire Someone after Failed 2010 Campaign

A few days after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, some reports in Italy hinted that “heads will be rolling” following Ferrari's failure to provide Fernando Alonso with a decent strategy to secure his 3rd world title. Another week has passed and everybody is still in place at the Maranello factory, which makes us wonder when the Ferrari management reshuffle will happen (or if).

The guy that everybody seems to point their fingers at was Australian Chris Dyer, Ferrari's chief engineer and also the charge of race strategies.

However, talking to Italy's La Repubblica, Ferrari's technical director Aldo Costa avoided to put the blame on anyone, insisting that the Scuderia has to first find out what went wrong in the 2010 season (Abu Dhabi included) and try to fix it for the future.

I'm not for the automatic 'error-guilt-punishment' (approach),” revealed the Ferrari technical. “I prefer a more rational response, where we understand what happened and what went wrong, and then we act. We must make sure that certain decisions are shared, with responsibility not resting on one set of shoulders.”

Additionally, Costa admitted Ferrari did not failed to win the title because of a strategy mistake, but because they didn't have the fastest challenger of 2010. The Italian team finished this year's campaign 3rd overall, behind Red Bull and McLaren.

But, anyway, we didn't lose the championship because of the strategy in Abu Dhabi, but because our car was not as fast as another,” added Costa, echoed by race driver Fernando Alonso.

We need an improved car and we must also ensure that mistakes that we made as drivers and as a team are not repeated in 2011,” said the Spaniard.
