Ferrari Might Build a Four-Door Model

One of the segments of the automotive market that has seen the biggest increase in the last few years is the four-door coupe one. The Mercedes CLS was a pioneer for this segment, with the vehicle becoming a commercial success. Eventually, the segment became much more than the niche it started out in life as.

Today, multiple automotive producers are playing on its ground, offering super creations like the Porsche Panamera (you can read our review of the car here) and the Aston Martin Rapide. And the future looks incredibly good. Mercedes will introduce the second generation of the CLS, while BMW will bring the 6 Series Gran Coupe to the game. More exotic players might also join the four-door coupe club, with one of the examples being Lamborghini, which has already introduced the Estoque concept and said that this might get the production green light.

Now, a new rumor linked to this segment has appeared, indicating that the Prancing Horse may be preparing to enter this arena. According to caradisiac.com, Ferrari is currently considering building a four-door vehicle, even though the company has ruled out this possibility in the past.

The car would be based on the replacement for the 612 Scaglietti model, a vehicle that is scheduled to come to the market in 2012. The latter is expected to be the first Ferrari to use the company’s hybrid system, which means that the sedan might get that too.

From the financial point of view, such a vehicle would make sense, as it will allow Ferrari to sell much more than it currently does, also bringing the automotive producer to a new segment. However, the Italians must be extremely careful in order not to compromise the spirit of the brand – Enzo is watching!
