Ferrari Heads Will Not Roll, Says Di Montezemolo

Ferrari will not proceed to a major team reshuffle for the 2011 season of Formula One, despite some errors made by its tacticians through the recently ended campaign. Although several reports in the Italian media have hinted in recent weeks that some of Ferrari's heads “will roll” following the Abu Dhabi finale, in which Fernando Alonso lost the chance to become world champion, both the company's president Luca di Montezemolo and team principal Stefano Domenicali dismissed the allegations.

Changes within the team? That is not our philosophy, because for years now we have adopted a policy based on dynamic stability,” began Di Montezemolo, talking to the media during Ferrari's end-of-season event at Valencia.

A few minor adjustments are possible, but no major upheaval,” added the Ferrari president, who once again reaffirmed his complete support for team principal Domenicali.

Ferrari's chief engineer Chris Dyer was the man most regarded as the cause of Alonso's failure to win the title in Abu Dhabi, as he was in charge with covering the pit strategy of Red Bull's Mark Webber. However, Domenicali insisted that no Ferrari man will suffer the consequences of a single mistake following the competitive 2010 campaign.

I could have followed the emotional wave after Singapore 2008, when the fuel nozzle was left attached to Massa's car,” said Domenicali in an interview with Italy's Corriere della Sera, exemplifying why shouldn't a single mistake weigh so much in axing a job at Maranello. “But that man was one of the protagonists of the winning pit stop at Monza this year.

Additionally, Di Montezemolo backed Felipe Massa for an improved season in 2011, especially since his problems with the 2010-spec tires from Bridgestone seem to have disappeared (the initial Pirelli test in Abu Dhabi gave a clear evidence of that).

First impressions are very positive. Sure, there is still work to do, but it was a really good day,” said the Ferrari boss, referring to the Ferrari cars' behavior with the new rubber.
