Philadelphia Flyers’ Jakub Voracek recently totaled his Ferrari California in his home country, the Czech Republic. The 23-year old NHL player was traveling on a straight stretch of road on Wednesday morning. He was carrying quite a lot of speed when a truck coming the other way started to slow down and aimed to turn left.
The hockey player didn’t manage to stop his California in time and, in order to avoid a head on collision with the truck, went the other way.
He crashed into a Mercedes and bounced off the road, hitting a tree and a telephone post. Even though the car was totaled, nobody was injured in the accident. Both drivers returned negative results when tested for alcohol.
Jakub reportedly admitted his guilt and agreed to pay for the damages, which accounted to 3,052,000 Crowns ($150,700 or EUR116,300 at the current exchange rates). It's curious how the source below doesn't mention anything about insurance though.
