Steve McQueen is one of the last ‘real men’ to ever drive a car in a movie. He was genuinely passionate about cars, driving them and briskly so. Of course everybody knows he drove that Mustang in Bullitt brilliantly, making what is definitely the best car chase scene in movie history.
However, for himself, he preferred something a little bit different to the ‘Stang driven in the movie. He used to own a beautiful Ferrari 275 GTB4. The car was reportedly found Ferrari Classiche, the Italian manufacturer’s official department which restores and maintains their old cars.

McQueen’s car was originally a coupe, but apparently, the previous owner didn’t care (or didn’t know) about the 275’s history and chopped off the top, making it a roadster. The car is now being reverted to its earlier body shape, with Ferrari experts re-fabricating the roof by hand out of sheet metal - the good old fashioned way, the way they did it in the 1960s.

It’s good to see a car with such an illustrious owner is being restored to its former glory, as it should. Steve McQueen was an icon and his car should be preserved the way it was intended to in the first place.

Also linked the Bullitt chase scene, for those of you who may not know it.
