Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced an investment in the facilities it operates in Ohio and Illinois.
We are writing about a sum that exceeds $1 billion, which will be invested in the retooling of the factories. Thanks to the investment, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles expects to create around 1,000 new jobs. These will come on top of the 23,500 jobs FCA created since June 2009, while its total investments will add up to $6.8 billion.
The investment is being made to support the future growth of the Jeep brand, which is set to receive new models. Once these new cars from Jeep come to market, the Italian-American automaker expected they would achieve sales results to justify the investment.
At this point, we cannot help but mention the fact that FCA has provided a massive disclaimer in its press release, where the company underlines the fact that it speaks of forward-looking statements.
What Fiat Chrysler Automobiles representatives are trying to say is that they only hope to achieve a performance worthy of the investment, but they cannot guarantee future performance. Instead, they look to current expectations and projections based on market trends, but these figures are not always on point with reality.
The first of the factories that will receive an investment from FCA is the Belvidere Assembly Plant (Illinois), which will get $350 million. This facility will manufacture the Jeep Cherokee, which will have its production moved from Toledo, Ohio, in 2017. FCA representatives estimate the creation of 300 new jobs. By the end of this year, the facility will stop making the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, and Dodge Dart.
The second plant to receive an investment is the Toledo Assembly Complex, located in Ohio. It will be retooled to produce the next generation of the Jeep Wrangler. Thanks to this introduction, approximately 700 new jobs will be created. The South plant will also have an announcement related to it, but it will come at a later date.
