FC Ingolstadt 04 Inaugurates Audi Sportpark

The newly built facility from Audi was recently officially opened, with the inaugural event attended by second-division climber FC Ingolstadt 04, who will be playing its home matches here in the future. The club also took the opportunity and has presented its team for the 2010/2011 season.

The new Audi Sportpark took 14 months to be built and has the capability to accommodate about 15,000 fans (9,000 seats and 6,000 standing room places).

The architecture is also innovative, including a piazza on the western side of the arena, 2,600 parking places for cars and 800 for bicycles in immediate proximity to the stadium, which also makes the Audi Sportpark the ideal place for concerts, for example.

“FC Ingolstadt 04 will tackle the challenge of the 2nd division of the soccer Bundesliga (federal league) with a line-up of 26 players. The most renowned new signings of the “Schanzer” team coached by former Bundesliga professional Michael Wiesinger are goal-keeper Sascha Kirschstein, who has Champions League and first-division experience under his belt, and the 14-time Austrian national player Ronald Gercaliu,” a company statement reads.

The Audi Sportpark will be opened to the public starting July 24. There will be music, interviews and live appearances by athletes on the Radio-IN stage. Furthermore, FC Bayern München Allstars and a celebrity team from Ingolstadt will compete in a friendly match, followed by a rapid tournament with FC Ingolstadt 04, its second-division rival FC Augsburg and the 2009 German Soccer Champion, VfL Wolfsburg.

FC Ingolstadt 04 will make its playing debut in the first round of the DFB Cup against the team of Karlsruher FC at the Audi Sportpark on August 13.
