Father and Daughter Killed as Driver Stops to Let Ducks Family Pass

A good deed turned into a tragedy on Sunday evening, June 27, after a driver stopped to let a family of ducks cross the road on the South Shore in Canada, two people were killed and one was severely injured in an accident. Specifically, a father and his daughter were killed after their motorcycle struck the stationary car.

There is no word on the type of the car involved, but it appears that it was stopped in the left lane of the highway.

The 50-year-old man died at the scene, while his 16-year-old daughter died of injuries caused by the incident which took place on Highway 30 near the 98 km mark in Candiac.

The teenager’s mother, riding another motorcycle that piled into the same car, was hospitalized and is now in stable condition. Police reports say that all three victims were wearing helmets. Unfortunately, this was not enough to save their lives.

However, the driver of the car, a woman of undisclosed age, was not injured in the incident. According to the local authorities cited by the montrealgazette.com, she may face prosecution.

“One thing is for sure, it is forbidden to immobilize your vehicle in the middle of the road unless it is an extreme emergency,” Police officer Richard was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. “Ducks do not qualify as an emergency,” Gagné added. “Whether its ducks or any other small animal, you do not stop unless it is perfectly safe to do so. I could understand if it was a moose.”
