Car Crashes into Crowd at Dutch Royal Parade and Kills 2

A speeding car crashed into the crowd today during the Dutch royal family parade in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, and killed at least two people, BBC reported.

After hitting the crowd, the black Suzuki Swift raced toward the open bus that was carrying Queen Beatrix and her family and didn’t stop until it hit a monument.

According to the Associated Press, police officers hurried to offer first aid to the victims involved before they were taken to the hospital. Soon after the incident occurred, other police representatives, along with sniffer dogs, searched the car for explosives. The incident appears to have happened on purpose, so even if the driver got away unharmed, he was arrested by the police.

Journalist Peter von de Vorst told RTL television that the bizarre incident was like watching a horrible movie. "It was a really nice day. Then you hear a bang. Everyone looks up and you see people indeed flying through the air. This must be a joke or a strange prank. Then suddenly panic, and you realize that something really terrible has happened," he said.

As it can be seen in the video bellow, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, his wife Princess Maxima and Prince Guglielmo looked in shock after the car drove through the crowd and slammed into the monument. The bus was not hit by the car, and no member of the royal family was injured.

The Dutch media reports show that at least 15 people were injured and two people were killed in the crash. Police is still trying to figure out how did the driver managed to enter the parade area with the car, after the zone had been sealed off hours before.
