After 700,000 units sold in its four years of business career, the Tiguan is back for another round in the ring, sporting a Tuareg-like front end, more efficient engines than ever and new assistance systems like Fatigue Detection and Light Assist.
In order to better announce the launch, Das Auto has also released a full set of photos showing the 2.0-liter TDI with BlueMotion technology, which now achieves an impressive 5.3 liters per 100 km for the two front-wheel versions. The system shuts off the engine completely whenever possible in city driving thanks to a Stop/Start system.
Das Auto has also announced that the SUV will be available in Germany starting in June and across the rest of Europe at the beginning of August, and overseas markets at the end of August. European pricing will start at €24.175.
Volkswagen’s powertrain technologies have become even more fuel-efficient. Three of the seven engines offered in Europe (all of them being forced induction four-cylinder direct injection engines) are new to the Tiguan. The four petrol engines (TSI with 1.4 to 2.0 liters displacement) produce between 122 hp and 210 hp. Meanwhile, the three diesel engines (TDI) cover a power range from 110 hp to 170 hp. Also available as an option on the new Tiguan is the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG).
With the new model come new assistance systems, such as Fatigue Detection (standard on the "Sport & Style" and "Track & Style"), the camera-based main beam control systems Light Assist (H7 lights) and Dynamic Light Assist (bi-xenon headlights). In addition, the Lane Assist lane-keeping system now expand the range of features available on the Tiguan. Also new in the Tiguan: the XDS electronic differential lock.
